In the main deck, we're hoping to stick surveil payoffs like Thoughtbound Phantasm and Dimir Spybug and grow them into real threats as we cast surveil cards

That single ability shuts down removal, ruins combat math, and makes attacking into your board a nightmare

But there are certain points in a game where life-gain can be pivotal, and using whites defensive powers to protect your creatures instead can be game-winning

That gives players a last-ditch attempt to stop a quest from a big character winning the game in the next turn by gambling (or plotting) to stop that attack from dooming their own plan
