Costume designer Betsy Heimann already had an impressive arsenal of credits behind her before the films debut in 2000, including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Crowes Jerry Maguire. However, the autobiographical nature of Almost Famous, which was based off of Crowes own adventures on tour with bands like Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers and The Eagles, allowed Heimann to, as she puts it, keep it real. She found a wealth of inspiration in Crowes own tour photographs, in addition to those of photographer Joel Bernstein from Neil Youngs Time Fades Away tour in 1973
