Instead, we're going with stuff like Migratory Route, which creates four more flying tokens, or Akroma's Vengeance, which blows up the world
Magic: The Gathering is a fantastic card game, but the Commander format has given it even more legs
Thankfully, over the past decade, even Wizards has realized that partners are pretty broken, and now they avoid printing more cards with the mechanic, instead relying on various partner-with-style mechanics that do something similar but with a much smaller pool of cards to choose from, like how you can partner a Doctor's companion with a Doctor from the Doctor Who set
That's great, because it will make a token every time
All of which had fairly high casting costs, but could be put to great uses late in games
