While I'm not as up to date with the current state of the tabletop game, for many editions The Swarmlord was considered a difficult inclusion in Tyranid armies due to its underwhelming stats, so at least they managed to bring over a hallmark trait into its incarnation in Magic
I also think a very important thing to note is that this card merely cares about permanents, not nonland permanents
Usually, you're going to use this on your opponent's creatures to steal cool abilities, but if you use it to swap with your own The Master Multiplied (or one of his token copies), it synergizes really nicely
Being able to split them up is lovely too, you can dig for lands early and then cash in lands with it late
