Affinity may seem dull on a creature that costs 3 mana, but its great at reducing commander tax, and there's a heartwarming story there too (look it up)
This means you can choose a lot of different win conditions by either focussing on token strategies, Elf synergies, or just generally keep your opponents with no cards in hand
a vanilla 3/3 is way less of a threat than that Sanguine Bond or Isochron Scepter we just destroyed
First, it could be a huge mana ramp for the casting player , as you'll be able to attack the turn it comes into play and then tap all your land for double mana at the cost of that much damage

While I think the Brood is worth a look in any Black sacrifice deck, this is especially true in decks that are interested in the Insect creature type
