While Nonius Senior was not a good looking horse, he was extremely hardy, with solid bone, great endurance and was an easy keeper. He was bred to better looking mares, and with a well managed line breeding program, the Hungarian State Stud produced a consistent, athletic and strong breed for driving and riding.
