Hand embroidered in silks with a repeating floral design around a central medallion on a deep red silk ground

couched metallic threads with silk thread embroidery worked onto a garnet red silk satin ground

possibly French but we can’t be certain

Dating from the first half of the 19th century this wonderfull polychrome tea caddy box covered with traditionally hand painted millefleurs and borders. The colours of this caddy are subtle and beautiful and are much more muted than in later paper mach examples.
