White ibises are everywhere in my part of the state wading through park lawns, perching on docks, gathering in flocks that move together like a single organism. They have long, curved bills that probe mud for crustaceans, and a body language that ranges from professorial to downright quirky. I named one of my ibis paintings The Professor for exactly that reason. I
