The foothills of the Himalayas and Kashmir traditionally were a source for trees and so an experienced and elaborate wood carving culture developed

It bears an old collection number of #528 which I have left on

Vintage bent and laminated S shape chair created from pressure fused pine (possibly Oregon Pine)

with the upper crossbar representing the sky and the lower one the earth

The stool has clearly been carved without the use of power tools and totally by hand

The design features two stacked zig zag diamond panels with a jagged sawtooth center dividing line and border elements influenced by the Spanish woven blankets so valued in New Mexico by the weavers of the Rio Grande blankets. The rug is in excellent condition, has a provenance and has been published in an exhibition catalogue
