Larvae feed only on the wild lupine plant which is not as plentiful as it once was, causing the karner blue butterfly to become endangered. Its lifespan is about 5 days. Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand carved and then painted with non toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua.
