A lot of cards there are very valuable just by virtue of being some of the first Magic cards ever 1

and back then I think the idea was just to have 'horror' represent, well, Lovecraftian/Cthulhu monsters -- before M:TG began to use it as a stand-in for Phyrexian-corrupted monsters and a substitute for demon/devil

Whenever you copy a mutate creature while it's on the stack, like with Volo's ability, the entire chain of mutate abilities will begin again when your copy resolves, giving you so much more value than normal

No action will be required from you , you are in good hands
