This effectively means that whenever you play an Elf, you can play another one without paying its mana cost
If you play it on Turn 1, your opponent either spends a removal spell on your one-mana 1/1, which pretty much guarantees youre trading up, or you get to untap and ramp into 4 available mana on Turn 3
You shouldnt be put off of packing graveyard hate, and provided your removal is appropriate for the kind of game youre playing both in power and quantity then graveyard decks should be happy to be interacted with
