While life loss is usually the best option, losing a quarter of your life total just to resolve a spell is admittedly pretty steep and gets better as the game goes along
I'd like to interject a note about sportsmanship here, in my opinion, if someone is going to win, and you use a pact to stop them with no chance to pay for it on your next turn, that's not really "competitive play"
