Its better than proliferating because the creatures dont have to already have the +1/+1 counters on them (although it obviously isnt going to help with other kinds of counters)
(To collect evidence 4, exile cards with total mana value 4 or greater from your graveyard.) You can't exile Lamplight Phoenix from your graveyard to pay the collect evidence cost of its triggered ability

The intentional including of some weaker, not-on-theme cards for the reprint machine, like Brilliant Plan, Kongming, "Sleeping Dragon", or newer cards that weren't on theme like Tidal Force are the only things keeping the synergy from your deck from breaking people in the face unfairly
Alternatively, you can add some more variety to the creatures in this deck, with cards like Gladiolus Amicitia and Tannuk, Memorial Ensign both giving an added dimension to the deck , and, as legendary creatures, you only need to add one or two copies so you wouldn't need to readjust your mana, bar maybe including one or two extra mountains in place of forests.
