Taking that ability and putting it onto your Commander or any other creature is ridiculous
Not only do you get the saboteur effect, but also the evasion you need
Later in the game, you can use its timey-wimey ability to put all those suspended cards into play
Once that happens, the value of X won't change later in the turn even if the number of artifacts you control changes
Sure, they were interesting and had some nice synergies, but they werent exactly game-breaking
The longer and more technical answer is that Hiram had phenomenal, borderline broken, synergy with Pawpsicle and Fortisphere , two inexpensive item cards that cost just 1 ink each and also allow you to draw a card when they're played
