The biggest issue Ive had with Gyruda companion decks is if Gyruda gets exiled

And while theres no place for it in modern decks (if you really want to gain life per turn, there are better ways to do it), its an interesting bit of MTG history behind it so much so that Wizards reprinted it in the Brothers War: Retro Artifacts set

Those two cards combined led to the creation of a wide array of green-black decks that Sol Malka got named "Rock." Eventually that name was corrupted to include any green-black deck involving creatures but the creatures were never the key to Rock's success

It makes instants and sorceries cost 1 less and draws you a card every time you cast one
