Exiling an attacker mid-combat , creating surprise blockers, or suddenly boosting creatures turns combat math into guesswork for opponents
Even though its permanent, this means it takes three turns of upticking to add as much damage as just one use of Elspeth, Suns Nemesis in a deck where every extra turn you allow your opponent massively reduces your chance to win
Blue board wipes almost always bounce creatures back to their owner's hands rather than destroying or exiling them

From my initial predictions, I was also able to predict Sephiroth having something like a wrath mechanic , which Sephiroth, Planet's Heir kind of does by debuffing all your opponents' creatures, potentially wiping out large swaths of weak token creatures
But this is free if you control your Commander, and it's a classic there
