Your opponents have a turn to answer it before you start taking over, maybe even less if you throw down a Talisman the turn you play it
I say might because it does potentially come into play tapped and telegraphs a bit by needing to be activated before you cast your spell, but it is an activated ability on a land which itself is hard to counter
Its fantastic in any format with fetch lands or just cheap, efficient spells to churn through your deck and fill up your graveyard
