Suffice to say, the variants are at their best when the character is reinvented in a wondrous and unexpected way, as opposed to being given a palette swap

The designers at Wizards of the Coast might have gone a little too far, especially with how it fits into pretty much every deck

That would have been a great card by itself a few years ago, but creatures need to have more immediate impact on the board these days - such is the nature of power creep

If however the spell you manage to place back on top is one that is only useful because of the stage of the game such as a ramp spell then you have gained a huge advantage, greater that you would have gotten from putting that card in the graveyard
